In 2014, with the active initiative of the Expert Centre of Dementia care at the Alexandrovska hospital (Directed by Prof. Traykov), a National Dementia Plan for dementia diagnosis, treatment and care was developed and suggested to the Ministry of Health (2014-2020). The implementation of the developed proposals and actions of the National Dementia Plan needs support at National and European level.

The main objectives of the National Dementia Plan is to create a model for the organization of early diagnosis of dementia disorders and to develop and implement an individualized plan for treatment and care of people with dementia and support of their caregivers and relatives in Bulgaria. This would have a great impact on wellbeing and quality of life and respecting the humanity of people with dementia and their caregivers.
